I had burger salad a few weeks ago while traveling by air coast-to-coast.

Due to situations beyond my control, I was unable to eat breakfast or lunch before leaving for the airport. I was on the same Southwest plane from the East coast to the West coast and would not being able to leave the plane on the single stop in Chicago. So I had to get something to take on the plane with me. Not much was available in that part of the airport and I am so tired of the ubiquitous airport chicken caesar.

I ordered two of McDonald's Angus Burger Deluxes with a lettuce wrap instead of the bun, hold the catsup and mayo, plus a bottle of water. They pack lettuce wrapped burgers in lidded containers; luckily I remembered to ask for fork and knife because the cashier didn't automatically put those in the bag. Before boarding the plane I combined the contents into one container.

On the plane I cut up the burger, tomato slices, and lettuce with the utensils and tossed the ingredients about like a salad. The burger wasn't greasy but it moistened the lettuce enough that it wasn't too dry without salad dressing or mayo. The angus burger deluxe comes with tomato slices and the lettuce used for wrapping was nice dark green leaf lettuce.

It worked out really well and was far more satisfying than a conventional airport chicken breast salad. As I had been up very early and it was at least 3pm before I could eat, I was actually was hungry enough that I could have eaten three of these burger "salads" with ease. I'm guessing they are about a third pound each before cooking, but with just some lettuce and two slices of tomato, that's still not a lot of calories for a long day. But it took care of the hunger pangs and I wasn't even remotely temped by the carby snacks proffered by the flight attendants.

I get a burger salad about once a week. One of our favorite local restaurants allows you to pair any of their meats with any of their salads. I get mine with dark greens, tomato, onion, bacon, & blue cheese crumbles. So long dry chicken breast!

We took Josh and AnnaMak to Fuddruckers last week,
had me a 3/4# burger with lettuce, mayo, mushrooms, onions and tomatoes. I tossed away the huge buns (fuddruckers bakes their own) and they ate delicious. Yum, that was a good meal. The biggest they have is 1#.
