Make’s No Difference
Explaining it "the right way" isn’t going to help you.
Here’s an amusing little editorial in the NYT (ha ha ha). I guess it’s human nature. When your admonitions aren’t accepted, the natural tendency is often to believe that those you’re admonishing are either incapable of understanding, or that you’ve just not explained it the right way.
You know, it’s like commies who forever complain that we’ve never yet seen true communism. Once we do, of course, we’ll not be able to wait to embrace it.
Here’s a different take on the matter that has the added virtue of being true.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT AND HOW IT WORKS

I, for one, think that the tendency to assume that you haven't explained yourself well enough is a redeeming value of people engaged in arguments in general. I suppose the point of your post is that the reason that environmentalism has failed is that it is as ridiculous as communism. However, it's interesting to look at the difference between environmentalism and communism. Both believe that they are correct, both are unable to be convinced that they are wrong–otherwise they cease to be communists or environmentalists. However, Communists advocate overthrow of the government whereas environmentalists advocate explaining themselves better.
Even if you consider both groups your ideological enemies it seems wierd to criticize the very tendencies that keep a movement like environmentalism from becoming a movement like communism. Would you rather environmentalists lay down their arguments and take up their arms?
exitorum,
There are individuals in both the communist/socialist movement and the environmental movement who believe the rest of us would accept their ideas if they could just "get the message" out, and those in both who don't care about what the rest of us think.
Look at the likes of Nancy Pelosi or the DNC for examples of the former if you don't think they exist among the commies, and look at ELF for examples of the latter in the watermelons. Besides, at their idological cores, the two movements are one and the same. It's the fellow travellers that don't realize it.
And yes, even though they won't believe it, both groups are comprised of individuals.
Oh, I have no doubt that the "well-meaning" environmentalists would slaughter jus as as many tens of millions of human beings as did the communists, if they ever get half a chance. Do you?
If anything, I see communists as indiferent to the value of human life, while I see environmentalists as adversarial towards it (except for them and their elite) to the point of principle.
