…Because YOU'RE FIRED!
Writes Mr. Cardello about a conference in which nutritional scientists sit down with food industry people to discuss how to solve the obesity problem:
It also was refreshing for me to listen to and learn from Dr. George Bray, the esteemed biomedical researcher and professor of medicine at Louisiana State Medical Center in Baton Rouge. To many insiders, he’s known as the founding father of the obesity issue. Bray is a doctor and scientist who has been practicing his craft for fifty-one years, and he still has the energy and curiosity of colleagues who are half his age. When he first began studying obesity, he was a doctor gently sounding a warning bell, but nobody was listening. The American population was about 14 percent overweight at the time. Now 30 percent of us are fat, so he said the problem has doubled since he began his work.
Now there is a backhanded compliment if I’ve ever seen one. I don’t think the author was being ironic, but it sure came out that way. And it corroborates my suspicions.
Bray truly has been a founding father of the obesity issue in ways that he probably doesn’t like. When he started working on the problem, the rate of obesity was 14 percent. After 51 years of effort on his part, the rate of obesity has more than doubled. That should tell anyone with sense enough to listen that Bray is a part of the problem, not a part of the solution.
But it's not the first time. It was only less than a month ago that Dr. Eades demonstrated convincingly that Dr. George Bray is a fucking liar; Bold Faced.
I want to go over Dr. Bray’s response to Gary’s letter in some detail because it is emblematic of all that is wrong with obesity research today and clearly demonstrates why we will never get anywhere until the people of Bray’s generation fade away. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen so many instances of one writer missing the point as often as Dr. Bray does in this short reply. The entirety of his response is an example of either shoddy thinking or intellectual dishonesty. Or maybe both. It brings to mind Mary McCarthy’s famous quote about Lillian Hellman: “Every word she writes is a lie, including ‘and’ and ‘the’.
Dr. Eades is talking about Gary Taubes' sound and thorough rebuttal to Bray's laughably ignorant review (check out the thermodynamics misapplication) of Good Calories, Bad Calories, and Bray's silly, amateurish, extremely transparent follow-on response, in which it's plenty clear to me that he knows he's been put in short pants and exposed by Taubes, but is simply too pussy to man up; so he writes a convoluted, stinking pile of shit response to draw in his sycophants, echo chamber and choir boys — all of whom are perfectly happy to lie to themselves and for Bray.
In case you don't know, GCBC is the ultimate authority on how people like Bray, Ancel Keys and others have ignored all the research going back 100 years and more, and how they have relentlessly pursued prestige on the backs of the people who are obese, diabetic, and have died as a result of their ego-driven cut-the-fat agendas.
My problem with these guys is not that they got it wrong and implicated fat. Anyone can get things wrong. No, what infuriates me is that in the face of overwhelming evidence spanning decades that they indeed did get it wrong, they instead insist. They lie, they obfuscate, and they dishonestly design purposely flawed studies — many funded with your tax dollars — in order to give them either plausible deniability in the face of unwanted results, or, the results they set out to get in the first place.
These people are not scientists in the slightest. A true scientists tries to disprove, to falsify his hypotheses, not confirm them.
Bray and the whole lot of them should be cursed by all people of good will and conscience who've looked into this. I, for one, hope for his quick demise. Dr. Bray: may your family and descendants ultimately come find shame in you; for, you should be ashamed of yourself.
