— But Nobody Understands What Morality Is… “This intriguing exploration takes readers through the depths of morality, its impact on civilizations throughout history, and its role in human existence, choice, and societal evolution.” Guess who understands least about what morality is? Theologians, religious scholars, and those religious and patriotic people of all stripes understand morality……...Read More

— "Whatever happens will be for the worse; therefore, it is our interest that as little should happen as possible." — Lord Salisbury
That was uttered by the statesman Lord Salisbury whilst the inevitability of British decline as an empire was too apparent to dismiss as the world entered into the 20th Century.
I find it a rather humorous thing to say in regard to matters of such import; but, alas, I find myself in a similar vein watching in
horror delight—can't decide—as American decline is manifest as a trip to hell—either by handbasket or rocket sled depending upon which day it is.
I'll begin with a basic question most everyone has an unthinking, automatic
answer reaction to:
Was the government of the US ever a good government?
I don't know that there's a definitive answer to that question that would even begin to satisfy the most skeptical, critical, and objective thinkers amongst us even if able to set aside our biases.
Surely, one of the first questions to the question would be, what's the standard of "good?" a legitimate and fair query. So, that's where claims must be staked first and reaching agreement on a single standard or set of non-contradictory standards will be next to impossible and much of that hinges and pivots upon an individual's views on complex, unsettled matters such as free will, natural rights, spiritualism, materialism, et al.
But we can cut to the chase a little bit, so let's just do that.
[In essence, THE CURRENT THING! is fast becoming how the Left is having a bad day, week, month, and year...getting face-fucked from all directions at once.
May it continue and heighten. We don't have enough prison space but we're going to have to manage.
Justice this time around is essential, no matter who, or from which party. Most of the political establishment should be serving long sentences for any number of actions that have harmed people in America and abroad. For instance, when it becomes apparent and is proven that the US blew up Nord Stream and plunged everyday Europeans into financial ruin and the cold, how many republicans should do 25 To Life for that?]

There's no way around the reality that I've managed to take this near 20-year-old blog to a membership direct-pay, viable proposition. With each new subscriber—usually several per day—combined with my geoarbitrage advantage, the thought of doing "free" content financed by affiliate deals, advertising, and corporate sponsorships that I pester you with incessantly, fades. Fast. This should become apparent to anyone pretty quick who tries to access anything beyond excerpts and introductions.
Inevitably, some are going to get weary of being locked out of stuff and join up so that access is unfettered, or they'll just cease popping in. Inevitable. I'm fine with either. I think it's silly to try to persuade someone to buy an ongoing subscription to something that's not of some genuine importance to them.
Here's one of the recent testimonials.
Found Richard 2012ish from Tom Naughton of Fathead fame. In short, came for the Paleo, stayed for the intellect. I believe Richard is honest. I admire that he is 100% true to himself, and he puts it all out there, take it or leave it. And, he’s really fine with either! He gives narratives/takes on subjects that, while entertaining, often makes me think and question how I view things. Unequivocally, Richard has given me more value than any other independent internet resource for a decade now. I’m happy to support his efforts of “one mind at a time,” as I have surely benefited from them. — Ron in Florida

As cable-news Generals endlessly pontificate about how fucked Russia COULD BE!!! they get undercut by a horse's mouth because they're stupid, have zero integrity, are in the pay, and are politically oriented first and foremost.
Laughably, the "commander-in-chief" (see short vid at the end) is gonna roll out TOUGH NEW SANCTIONS!!! that are GONNA HIT REALLY HARD!!! He's probably about three nap-and-sleep cycles behind.
If you ever watched a single "news" source that's not mainstream, then you likely have never heard of the Minsk I and II accords, how Russia fully complied and Ukraine ignored, refused, and continued to devastate the Donbass, etc. You wouldn't know that because of those Ukraine actions that Russia recognized the independence of two regions and signed a defense accord (treaty) and fulfilled that bargain under continued Ukrainian assault days before Russia's operations began.
Nor would you have heard anything about what Putin's and Russia's goals were in order to get out of this.
Nope, an ignorant-of-everything narrative was created and just like Covid, was disseminated and taken up worldwide, detractors are Nazis (while Ukraine's biggest-in-the-world Nazi problem was part of the problem...but crickets...), and all of Russia's tactical and strategic diversions (like taking Kyiv with a 40KM truck convoy and 40K troops, LOL...even fucking cable-news Generals fell for that) were square-pegged into the prevailing narrative as TROUBLE FOR RUSSIA!!!
Fucking fools everywhere. Nobody thinks for themselves, anymore. Not even cable-news Generals.Read More
In my last post about our dismal state of affairs, I got a comment shooting out a link, and I read it this morning. Here's a money quote.
As a former head of the Warsaw Pact forces in the Swiss strategic intelligence service, I observe with sadness—but not astonishment—that our services are no longer able to understand the military situation in Ukraine. The self-proclaimed “experts” who parade on our screens tirelessly relay the same information modulated by the claim that Russia—and Vladimir Putin—is irrational. Let’s take a step back.
OK, but who the fuck is he and who should care? Easy.
Jacques Baud is a former colonel of the General Staff, ex-member of the Swiss strategic intelligence, specialist on Eastern countries. He was trained in the American and British intelligence services. He has served as Policy Chief for United Nations Peace Operations. As a UN expert on rule of law and security institutions, he designed and led the first multidimensional UN intelligence unit in the Sudan. He has worked for the African Union and was for 5 years responsible for the fight, at NATO, against the proliferation of small arms. He was involved in discussions with the highest Russian military and intelligence officials just after the fall of the USSR. Within NATO, he followed the 2014 Ukrainian crisis and later participated in programs to assist the Ukraine. He is the author of several books on intelligence, war and terrorism, in particular Le Détournement published by SIGEST, Gouverner par les fake news, L’affaire Navalny. His latest book is Poutine, maître du jeu?
Oh, my. Almost sounds a little more expert than the retired colonels and generals supplementing their retirement pay through "expert" bla bla and yak yak appearances on Fox, CNN, and MSNBC. Incidentally, as a former US Navy officer I can't get through a single guest appearance by any of them ever. I know high-ranking military officer bullshit-speak when I hear it. I only ever knew one single flag-officer in 8 years I didn't think was mostly a liar and mostly full of bullshit most of the time. They're politicians. That's how they get there when it's not no-shit war.
Well, might as well mention the one dude who was straight-up mensch. Henry H. Mauz.
Henry Herrward Mauz Jr. (born May 4, 1936) is a retired United States Navy admiral and the former Commander in Chief, United States Atlantic Fleet from 1992 to 1994.
After graduating from the United States Naval Academy in 1959, Mauz went on to serve in Vietnam, operating river patrol boats along the Mekong Delta. He went on to command a minesweeper, USS Prime (MSO-466), the guided missile destroyer USS Semmes (DDG-18), and the guided missile cruiser USS England (CG-22) (1980–1982).
Mauz served as commander of the United States Seventh Fleet from 1988 to 1990, and in August 1990 assumed command of all United States Naval forces in the Persian Gulf.
Mauz retired from active duty in 1994 as Commander-in-Chief, United States Atlantic Fleet. A 1965 graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School, he was President of the Naval Postgraduate School Foundation, and currently serves on its board. Mauz's education includes the Naval Academy, Naval War College, a graduate degree in electrical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a Master of Business Administration from Auburn University.
Well, I know a lot of flag-officer resumes read similarly but personally, Mauz was different. Perhaps it was because he maybe could have been a pro golfer instead. He had a 3 handicap, and this is when I knew him in his 50s (US Seventh Fleet Staff).
People are so prone to authority figures. And it's pathetic and fucking stupid. Here's the real hierarchy:
- Solid record of being right and producing important results that are obvious and can be accounted for with math
- Job titles held
- Degrees held
And 3 and 4 are entirely superfluous because only #1 matters, and 2 and 3 are not prerequisites. Fuck off already about this. It's really fucking sad that we live in a world were #1 real results are only taken seriously if 2 and 3 are prominent. I know we all fall prey to its seduction.
...For another quick diversion before I get to the meat course, fucking Alex Berenson. A lefty, former NYT reporter, author of some books, etc. He's one of the few lefties with credentials that went after the Covid scam. He wrote a book, Pandemia: How Coronavirus Hysteria Took Over Our Government, Rights, and Lives, published last November and has been a top seller in spite of zero media attention or marketing from his publisher. I haven't read it, but I know a couple who have and who give it high marks. Here's a review by a German academic. In short, Berenson's stuff on Covid has been narrative smashing and that's what's important.Read More
The history is 30 years old and while it was happening in the early 1990s, I was a US Navy officer on exchange with the French Navy.
Here's how it sorts out from my recollections.
I was attending Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA in the spring, summer, and fall of 1989 before taking up duties with the French, one of the 30 members of NATO (L'OTAN—l'organisation du traité de l'Atlantique Nord) when toward the end of the French course, the Berlin Wall came tumbling down in November.
After a month of R&R in Thailand I began a gauntlet that would put me in Washington DC at the Pentagon and French Embassy, then the US Embassy in Paris to get all checked in an situated, then NATO HQ in Belgium. This wasn't high-level stuff. I was a junior officer just doing the rounds, being briefed, and taking it all in.Read More
