Am I Writing About Hitting The Gym Again? Oh, Yes I Am…

Sun Fitness; Pattaya Beach, Thailand

[This post is public access and will be until I deem it's the right time to toss it behind the Membership Wall at some level to be decided. Notably, I have added a Lifetime Subscription option, by request. Details here.]

When I began to consider doing another workout or 'gym-post' yesterday—after a workout at Sun Fitness just a half-click walk from my hotel—I remembered that the gym was what lead me to Paleo and dieting in the first place, way way back in 2007; 15 damn years ago, at the age of 46.

Resistance Training

From my first post on the topic, May, 2007.

I will have much more to say about this in months to come, but it's becoming increasingly obvious to me that in terms of health and fitness, people have been suckered into a load of nonsense over the last 30 years with respect to the benefits of aerobics to the exclusion of all else.

Over four years ago, now, I embarked on a program of walking (briskly) every morning five days per week. I wanted to lose some poundage that needed losing, the dog needed walking anyway, and I like to walk. Well, 4,000 miles later (I was very religious about it, still am, and I enjoy it and intend to keep at it) I not only didn't lose any weight but probably put on about 20 lbs. This was three miles per day (about 45 minutes), fifteen miles per week, every week. If you think you're going to do much about an overweight problem with evening walks around the block you're probably fooling yourself.

What really got the ball rolling was a comment on the post. Long timers will know the prominent name in the LC, Paleo, and Evolutionary Fitness spheres.

Yep, it was Art De Vany. It was perfect, really. He had both a sensible fitness approach and a sensible dietary approach—both modelled after evolutionary principles. To this day and as far into the future as humans manage to remain genetically human, one cannot go wrong by simply adhering to his 'old' advice.

The test of time is baked into the cake.

And so I made lots of progress in both areas and in terms of the gym, I blogged about it frequently.

Leangains by Martin Berkhan

This all culminated in working with Martin Berkhan, creator of the Leangains Protocol, beginning in April of 2010. Martin's demeanor is as badass and no bullshit as is his 700# deadlift. I was using an experienced trainer at the time—one with an actual degree in exercise physiology—who took well to Martin's approach, helping rather than hindering.

Six months later and I was ready to do a series of posts about all of it.

What access does a paid subscription get you?

  • The other 3,800 words detailing my return—including lottsa pics...gym pics, food pics, young chic pics...
  • The What Caused My 40% Testosterone Increase Multi-Post Series
  • My other Multi-Post Projects (the section right after "My Latest Posts" on the home page...9 more of them and soon to be 12, once I finish drafting the introductions)
  • The archive of 5,095 paywalled posts going back 19 years, searchable on just about any topic you can think of. Yes, I have something to say about everything
  • An unparalleled experience if a non-approved and non-standard take on the-latest-thing narrative is your thing and you're a glutton for a sharp, opposing view
  • Satinty, reason, and deliberation over perpetual fear, loathing, triggered reactions, crises, and society's sheepish reactions to all edicts from on high

If you doubt those last two bullets, then I encourage you to browse the newly added Testimonials page, or if pressed for time, just the excerpts. Then see what paying members who have been readers for 10 years plus have to say about me and my style.

15 Ways To Improve Life Today — (In Exactly 187.5 Minutes)

Doing the maths, that's just a smidgen over 3 hours.

The Godfather is 2 hours and 55 minutes...and while my 3 hours of footage in 15 videos shot, edited, produced, and published over the last week won't give you any ideas or tips on how to actualize your best life as a mafia Don, it may give you more than a few actionable and practical ideas. Inspiration? Well, I'm an expat living a dream in Thailand...Enough said? Pitfalls to avoid?

That's a certainty, and I pass all of then on—in the the writs and the vids—in part because I'm the worst at succumbing to nearly all of them. Learn from my mistakes, would'ja?

This is pretty big work in terms of thought, effort, hours, and perseverance. Sunday, September 5th's Roundup had 7 vids produced over the week. Last Sunday, the 12th, had 11 of them. That's 33 videos in 3 weeks—awfully close to 2 per day (now 1 vid per 0.64 days).

Will you love all of them? No. Not even I can claim that. It's like your own offspring. Admit it; you have your favorite(s). Will you hate all of them? No. Try to hate #5, for example, once you get past the clickbait innuendo (I Live Between Two Lovely Young Thai Ladies. Here's What Happened Today). I'm sorry to say that such headlining of posts is the terrain in this game. I suppose it always has been everywhere products and services are sold. Sex & money. They sell.

Here's the introduction to this week's 15-video deluge release, where I discuss that very aspect of the selling out required to be effective at this sort of thing. It's probably less so for writing than for blogging. Ironically, the title of the video, and of this post, falls right into that hyperbole category. The headline analyzer I use scored it an 84 out of 100. My 1st stab at it scored in the 60s... The 2nd cut scored 75. Then, successively, 82, 83, and I settled at 84 as close enough.

I'm learning as I go.

Before I get to the list, I've got 4 insightful analytic charts for you, or, for those who may be curious or interested. Or, even for those considering doing this sort of thing in their own unique style. What you may be up against. Click on them for the full size versions, about 1500px wide.

The Secret For a Man: How To Get That Initial Positive Visceral Reaction From a Woman

This post roughly falls under my series of posts, What Caused My 40% Hormone Increase? (I changed out the T-word in there because of the maternal spam filters...)

This was something I was informed of, but didn't think much about because I didn't have the problem.

Then, within a short time, I developed that specific problem and noticed a tremendous difference in my interactions with women, in a negative way.

Chicks were not approaching me or behaving towards me as I've enjoyed all of my adult life. Because of the very short time frame involved, I was able to form a hypothesis as to the cause and I took action immediately. This state of affairs will just not do.

Not at all.

...And to confirm that this untold, unknown secret was precisely at the root of the problem: then once I took the requisite actions, executing on those actions fixed the problem. All went back to normal. Here's a hint for the astute. That was taken Tuesday morning, 04:45, after arising 15-minutes earlier—my daily routine. Then it's work-work-work until 07.00, when I head over for the best Americano in Rawai / Nai Harn, then the 7km barefoot walk, and then a 2nd Americano.

So, I've been doing videos—a lot of videos—lately, so I did one on this problem and its solution. In my daily 90-minute walk, I can do about three videos, and this was one of them.

CHAPTERS:

  1. The manly motorcycle ride to the Windmill Viewpoint, no helmet
  2. The introduction to the talk
  3. Going it manly barefoot
  4. What gets women viscerally when they see a man, positive or negative?
  5. Shout out to Alexander Cortes
  6. The secret revealed
  7. Absolutely true! And from PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
  8. So here's the story part 1
  9. The laboratory
  10. They aren't approaching me, so who are they approaching?
  11. Now the rest of the story: the radical transformation and results
  12. What's next? Part 2, about what motivates women after the visceral or chemistry-box is checked

It's up to the "windmill" lookout, back down, and two times around the lake

In addition to the video itself, I've put a lot into this post, as the next in the 40%-Increase series.

  • Before pictures
  • Photographic evidence of the precipitous weight loss in a short time
  • After pictures from getting things right
  • A transcript of the video with lots of added written commentary

And, last but not least—and most importantly—the food that's the mainstay of the rapid transformation!

Since I've been around the diet realm for so long, nobody, and I mean NOBODY does food and the pics like I do. BOTH aesthetically pleasing AND big-ass for the MAN in you (goes for some of the astute ladies out there, too). I present 29 amazing, mouth-watering, protein-targeted food pics that ought to be the envy of the entire getting-fatter-or-shrivelling-up dietary world. Those 29 recent food pics alone (all within the last month) and the hundreds like them distributed to members throughout the year is worth the price of a membership alone.

...Even my friend Mark Sisson doesn't (can't) do it like this. Do you know why? It's because his operation is heavily chick-centric and unfortunately, that includes at least tens of thousands of woke, virtue-signalling males. Consequently, most of his food pics are done by women, for women. Call it California Paleo, I guess. That's the vibe I get. But, bless The Sisson's Heart anyway.

I do food pics appropriate to men—and laddies who're of that very special, cherished minority. Recently, some of my publishing activity demographics have gone from a ratio of 92:8, men to women, to 98:2.

Sounds about right, sad to say. Of course, anyone who's been following along with everything I've been up to can likely guess the cause of that, and accurately so.

Simply put, I will tolerate nothing but a very healthy relationship with a woman. The vast majority of men are in profoundly unhealthy, castrating-like relationships with women. And one reason I like Thailand so much is the way women behave towards men...

So, grab yourself a premium, paid membership and get a move-on with my extreme productivity. You can skip 9 of 10 things I put up and it's still going to be a value. And if not, for you, then ending the relationship is a 1-click away, no questions asked.

I caught a cold, a flu, or some neologism that starts with a 'C'...I have no idea

Saturday evening I came home rather late, perhaps 1am or so. I felt fine. Sunday morning, I was feeling off and had "that feeling." I had to tough it out until after an 11am in-person meeting which did not take long. Then I began feeling worse and worse. Then the typical sneezing starts, runny nose, congestion, headache and this time (I've had this before) a fever. Trust me, when it's 35 (86F) outside, I'm not running A/C, and I'm shivering, I've got a fever. I've understood this since before I was 10.

So I did what I always do when a fever strikes. I go to bed. Always. I closed off the bedroom, put on the A/C (22...71.6F...my "sleep number"). I got under the covers and just kinda enjoyed the light shivering. I slept on an off and wasn't getting cold sweats, so it must have been only a few degrees elevation. I got up after a couple of hours but was still cold as f...In Thailand. I had to turn off the fans and close the doors that pass fresh air through the place.

I was sapped for energy. A proper wet rag. No motivation, no focus. By about 4.30pm I was ready for the bed again, and this time it was for 14 hours. It's funny when you have a fever. Far from feeling hot under pajamas, sheets, blankets and a comforter—as is always depicted in TV and film—I've always slept bare skin in skivvies so that I can get a proper chill when I want one, especially since I have the A/C unit blowing right on me. Toss those covers off for 10 minutes until good and cold.

On day 2 the fever was gone or mostly gone, but then the symptoms gathered together in earnest to make me miserable (congestion, runny nose, sneezing, coughing) Also, whole body ache. I used 3 things primarily:

The thing about arginine is that for best effect you need to take it on an empty stomach and not with any food. Then it's not competing with any other amino for entry into the cells. If you have some respiratory illness and find it difficult to cough from way on down, take 5g of arginine, wait until its vasodilation properties kick in and find yourself coughing up phlegm from the nether regions of your lungs. NAC works similarly in these respiratory applications because it breaks up mucus, liquifies it. Easy to sneeze and cough out. And the FDA might be backing off about banning it.

While I'm on the issue of sneezing, let 'er rip. Find a safe space, or outside but I mean no holds barred. Ladies, you know who I'm talking to. This is what coughing and sneezing are for. Expel all that mucus and phlegm crap, including viruses and bacteria contained within. Another reason why masks are fucktarded. No, don't do it in someone's face, but all lady-like muffling does is keep it inside where your body has determined it does not belong. So day two was pretty much hell and I need to mop my floors. Day 3, yesterday, was markedly better and today, day 4, the symptoms are nearly gone.

...We got a break in the weather where it's been raining for a week and in the last few days, almost 24/7 drizzle, which I hate. I love the big rains that get it over in 30 minutes and the sun comes out. So there's a 2-3 hour window with bright sunshine and I went down to the pool. Spent from 12.05 to 13.05, full skin exposure and I felt great. I still do, 3 hours later.

...One last thing. Friends ask, was it the 'C' word? Don't know, don't care. Felt just like the dozens of respiratory infections in my life; and when I was young and I was pretty miserable, mom sometimes took me to Dr. Berger, the family pediatrician. He was already pretty old in the 1960s. He didn't diagnose with TESTING TESTING TESTING!!! He did what docs did. He does an examination by listening to your breathing, has you cough, feels your lymph nodes, asks you questions...pretty standard stuff, I imagine. In the end, "probably just a cold or mild flu. Here's some medicine to help with the symptoms. He'll be fine, but if it gets worse, bring him back." That never happened.

The bottom line is that I do not understand this obsession with knowing which form of respiratory virus you have. If it feels like a cold or mild flu, just treat symptoms like we always did. ...In one measure of longed-for sanity in Thailand today, they will only be reporting "cases" resulting in hospitalization—as it ought to have been globally since the start.

90-Year Old “Takimika” is Badass!

...And with an infectious smile that begs you to say, "just tell me what to do, ma'am!"

She didn't even start training until the age of 65—25 years ago—and became a personal fitness instructor at 87. Hahahaha, how joyous to get to laugh while at the same time, realizing that no matter how good at life you get, there'll always be someone to shame you—well, perhaps except for her. She's potentially the most quintessentially shameless human on the planet.

Born January 15, 1931. That would have made her 10 years old when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and touched off a war with the United States. Funny enough, by the time I left Japan in 1989 after 5 years, She was 58—7 years away from her husband's idle comment about her weight creep that began this mission accomplished.

It’s still dark when 90-year-old Mika Takishima gets up at 3:00 am for the first of her two daily workouts. Every day it’s not raining, she walks 4-km, followed by a 3-km jog, and finally walks backwards for 1-km. In the afternoon she’s in the gym for 2-hours, stretching and lifting weights. In order to concentrate on the exercises, she does not listen to music while she trains—hardcore!...

Why You’re Failing On The Keto Diet

It’s in our nature to seek paths of least resistance. It’s not a particularly bad thing. Conserve energy, obtain more for less, and reduce the often greater risks associated with high energy and effort. It’s not necessarily lazy and can sometimes be smart.
