Merry After-Christmas Downtime
My favorite time

I was going to post something on Christmas day, then yesterday. Nah. Everyone’s good. Leave ’em alone. I was enjoying my downtime as well. Sure, you can argue that living in a tropical paradise dating chicks less than half my age is perpetual downtime, but that depends on what your definition of is, is.
In fact, I have been entirely alone for about the last 5 days and I have enjoyed it. But that’s just me, and it’s totally analogous to being only with people you’re very close to. People in your lives for as long as you can remember. There is just something very special about this time, and it’s why I really only care for Thanksgiving and Christmas as holidays.
I don’t give a shit about any of the others. Those are enough for me.
Last year, I made a video about how I Won’t Be Home For Christmas For The 12th Time. This makes 13. Oh, well. With video streaming now, it’s almost better that you chat when you feel the need, rather than according to some calendar imperative.
… I watched John Wick 1, 2, and 3 yesterday, if you must know…
The Thanksgiving holiday, being always on Thursday, is locked-in perfection. You work up until Wednesday afternoon, automatic 4-days off, and you eat 4 days worth of calories on day 1 so you’ve got time to chill. That didn’t always happen for me. When I was a kid, I was always too enamored of all the wonder of it all that I often didn’t eat that much and would end up feeling like I missed something because I didn’t stuff myself.
I have since cured that problem.
Decades ago.
… Christmas is a gift in itself, just a month from Thanksgiving, back-to-back. I have always loved everything about it. For much the same reasons, and when it should fall on a Thursday, great. Wednesday this year, but I hope most of you have had the wherewithal to push your holiday to a 5-day extravaganza of doing fuck-all in your downtime.
So that’s what this is about.
… It was not without a bit of sorrow.

That’s from the local Reno, Nevada newspaper in 1952. Contrast that with your daily photos of the “migrant” invasions infesting Western shores from Low-IQ and Dogshit-Culture lands. I digress.
All the older folks in the photo are long gone, of course. The kids have mostly thrived for whole lifetimes. Manfred, the oldest and right-center, next to my grandfather, Ernst, died in his early 40s, mid-70s, from complications of Type 1 diabetes. It was difficult to control way back then.
Until just a few days ago, all were still carrying on, most in their 80s, a few now late 70s.
My uncle Hans passed away, over a bout with cancer at 85 just a couple of days prior to Christmas. Of all my uncles, I knew him almost the best. Coffee fiend. Mutual. Pastor of folks. Loving. Uncompromising. Smiling. Nice guy. I live in Thailand, so I’ll add this, in Thailaise: “he not say bad.” What I mean by that is that, in spite of facts, he just wasn’t given much to lashing out and talking shit about people or things. I often heard him express sorrow. That’s how he did it.
He made a great Baptist Pastor. He would have been an excellent Buddhist Monk, too.
Ministry. To people.
In my nearly 65 years of life, Hans never uttered a disrespectful, unkind, or harsh word to me. It was always that ear-to-ear smile with that guy.
Serendipitously, I had this inebriated urge to make a video a couple of years ago, and specifically about him and his special nature as a guy. He specialized in being a nice guy. The vid made some rounds and Hans and I ended up having a nice video call in the aftermath. When I heard about his health problems in recent months, I was going to reach out.
I decided to leave the end at this.
… Ingo is the one I really know the best, but he doesn’t like me much, anymore. But he was always cool to me. When I was in my latter teens, he and I ran a route to buss kids to Sunday School every Sunday morning.
Wolfgang—who became a Reno motorcycle cop and even got shot in the line of duty once—is a pushover sweetheart, and I mean that in the most flattering way. Like me, I don’t think he’s capable of holding a grudge.
Uwe, like his oldest brother, Manfred, is a brain. Manfred came to the USA already speaking English, did a stint in the Army as a translator, and later got dual university degrees in journalism and education. Uwe has degrees in nuclear physics and a masters in electrical engineering. He’s never really cared to hold down jobs in either field and has always been a curiosity-seeking free spirit…perhaps troubled by the conformity demanded by society, for which I have a certain affinity.
… After I published my video MC ride through Pattaya yesterday, I got an immediate membership cancellation from a dude. That always bums me out, a little. Then I got another.
But right on that notification’s heels, I got this email:
Hi Richard
Loved your video and the mall / Japanese restaurant – I love sushi too!
Thank you for sharing your news re recent events, you were also a timely wake up call for the rest of us to keep taking our supplements and aspirin with Vit K – to keep things running smoothly.
Good to see your part of the world too and hear your stories, always insightful and different.
I shared your fasting his-story and monk’s meal habits with my partner who read it all.
May you continue to brighten our road with your travels, adventures and good humour.
Next year it will be 20 years of reading your writings and introductions to others who inspire you.
Sending good wishes for a happy xmas and new yearn 2025.
Pauline
I. Never. Stop.
Further to that. Another social media post.
When I posted my MC ride through Pattaya it kinda exploded in views. Not anything like the big influencers, but multiples of what I usually get. Up to about 1000 now.
Something like that always gets coke-sipping, pizza-munching, computer-gaming, sheet-staining, momma’s-basement-dwelling incels to project their un-desirableness in comments.
I summarily delete every single comment.
100% of them are from “males.”
I am thoroughly convinced that there is zero problem on this planet with females. The problem is a severe lack of men. Since I drafted that, above, some other dude cited all the traffic regulations (as though Thais follow them, as you can clearly see in the video, they don’t).
It ended the comment with, “You should be deported. You make me sick.”
Cuckold, simp males like that are 100% of the problem with western civilization. Feminism is 100% a backlash from that level of fucking pussy.
Be a man. It’s what women want.
… I got a kick out of this, and it’s something I like to toss in the faces of all dietary ideologues as often as I can. Because they are all so full of shit and vegans, low-carb, keto, and carnivore are the most full of shit. I make no distinctions between the idiocy of vegans and carnivores, anymore.
What’s Don’s secret? This is 3 years old, when he turned 70 years old. He’s up to about 35,000 now.
Since Big Macs are his “staple food” for 50 years (plus the sugar-Cokes), he just doesn’t eat too many of them, too often. Doesn’t eat the fries, typically. “Eating too much.”
And that’s it.
(I get so fucking tired of explaining this to people who seek only magic foods—low-carb or no-animal—so that: they can eat as much as they want, as often as they want.)
You cannot. You will be fucking fat and you will stay fucking fat. IF something like carnivore helped, it helped because you stuffed your fat fucking face with fucking less, less fucking often.
… As an aside, I’ve been having good X (Twitter) exchanges with Drs. Andreas Eenfeldt and Ted Naiman about all of this. Mercifully, it’s not anything about dietary ideology. It’s about ways to eat less, less often. No matter what the food might be. Big Tent.
Low carbers…. That paradigm is fucking over and Gary Taubes, et al, are irrelevant. Mark my words.
I’m casting my lot with Eenfeldt and Naiman, and I am never wrong. New paradigm upcoming. Watch and see. Previously, I thought nutritional density was a better key. Now, cross nutritional density and satiety and forget about all the bollocks over carbs, seed oils, anti-nutrients, and toxins.
… I just have to include this one. Email from a reader:
“A FANTASTIC read. I married my Thai Wife 30 years ago when I was 51 and she was 23. We will retire in Thailand very soon. Loved your perspective and analysis.”

He has 30 years “hands-on” experience doing what I write about in the FREE 54-page PDF. My first visit to Thailand was 1986. I’ve now lived here for 5 years. I’m nearly 65 and still date the same aged gals I did when I was 25.
Get it FREE. It’s widely applicable to all old-dude, young-chick relationships. Seize your birthright.
… And last entry, a little plug. Only a few more days until my annual sale ends, but here’s an email this morning who paid the full price for a lifetime membership.
Richard,
Thanks for this personal email – appreciate it.
Quick question – do you have any issue if I share my login credentials with my 3 kids? 1 just started college and 2 are getting there. I’m working with them on how to leverage AI for their futures. It would be awesome if they could use your AI, but I don’t want to take advantage of your excellent setup without checking in first. If it doesn’t work for you, no worries, I’ll keep access limited to me.
I also want to get them exposed to your thinking – they are getting old enough and I’d like them challenged in their thinking and you are great for that – smile.
In terms of background….I’ve been reading you for years (back in the early Paleo days originally) and I’ve gotten much more than $500 worth of value from you over that time! Heck, introducing me to the potato hack was worth it. I’m very interested to hear more about your dry fasting experiences. I’m getting geared up to do some things there.
You seem to be on the same track I’m on. Crypto, AI, Diet, Strength, Alcohol, Life Philosophy – it all resonates and I love your writing style. I of course don’t agree with everything you say, but that is what I like about your style. Makes me think….I like that.
Hope all is well in Thailand and have an awesome day and week. I’ll need to do some Buddhist monk fasting to offset my holiday indulgences.
I pull teeth to get people, even members, to get curious about AI and stuff.
Mostly nope.
But if you’re so inclined.
(and of course I authorized him to have his kids use the log in)
Later. Bye. Chill.
