My Workaholic Wife

I’ll get to the theme of this post in due time, but first I wanted to lay out my evolving thoughts on how I think, work, and write. In my last post I touched on this sun-up-to-sundown way of living. It doesn’t mean you can’t stay up and party some nights. It’s simply your baseline. That’s become my default, and I can’t tell you how much I love it. It feels normal and natural, and it makes me wonder how much of the chronic health wreckage in the West is just the result of pissing all over the way humans are actually meant to live.

There are diurnal animals and there are nocturnal ones. Humans are daytime creatures, period. The more you align with that, the better off you are. It just feels right when you’re in that mode. I love being up at five in the morning—typically somewhere between 4:45 and 5:15, because right now that’s when the light starts breaking and by 5:30 everyone here is up and moving. It suits me.

This shift is changing how I want to blog. Scrolling social media is mostly a waste. I’m kicked off Facebook, but I still check X. It’s still full of the same stupid bullshit: people rage-posting over the latest news outrage, which is itself nothing but engagement bait. The more you live sun-up to sundown out in the country, the clearer it becomes that the world is packed with fucktards. That said, the world still matters. Civilization still matters.

So what am I doing going forward? I have to keep producing, but the output is shifting. These days I’m shooting a bunch of short videos—two, three, four a day—mostly about this place, the land, and what we’re doing here. My workaholic wife is sitting right in front of me as I say this. That’s the new theme.

A handful of paid subscribers have canceled. It doesn’t bother me. Most of them signed up when I was deep in the diet and food fights, or when I was hammering politics and taking the piss out of religion. Nobody subscribed because they wanted wall-to-wall Thailand content. Before, it was a bit raunchier with the girls and all that, but I’m settled now and we’re homesteading on what I consider the perfect size of land—one rai, basically half an acre in Western terms. It’s the right scale, and I’m out there every day working it and filming these short clips.
