I Missed One: USA Euthanasia and Organ Harvesting

Here’s a strange one for you that just recently blipped onto my radar, and it amounts to a goddamn oversight on my part that I’ll explain below. I believe it was in the late 1970s, and I was sitting in church—actually, a fundamentalist Baptist one, Grace Baptist Church in Reno, Nevada. The pastor, Phil Rhodes, did a sermon I’ve never forgotten, mostly because I didn’t know what the fuck he was talking about at the time. His whole message was about euthanasia, framed in the context of how it’s God who decides when you die, not humans judging based on your inability to meet some bullshit human goals. Basically, if you’re no longer “useful” to society, that doesn’t mean you’re not still useful to God. I was about 16 or 17 years old, so I had no clue what the term even meant. I just kind of logged it in my head, didn’t do shit with it, and moved on.
In the ensuing years, once you get a driver’s license—at least in most states in the USA—you can opt to be an organ donor. I thought, well, that’s a good thing. If I get mangled in a car wreck and some parts of me can help keep somebody else vibrant and living, why the hell not? So, I’ve always had “donor” stamped on my US driver’s license.
Fast-forward a decade or so, and I’m knee-deep in various internet forums—this is back in the 90s now—and I’m acquainted with several folks who were sounding the alarm about euthanasia. They were warning how it was all going to slide down the slippery slope, with the state eventually killing people en masse. It’d be on the basis of culling the population, but typically to ease the load on younger society—kill off the old folks, essentially. I admit, I always kind of rolled my eyes at that shit. I thought, nah, that’s just too far-fetched, at least for the foreseeable future.
But now, decades later, there are these recent revelations about forced— and I mean these are not fringe conspiracy theories; this is mainstream news—essentially killings to harvest organs, which ties right back into euthanasia. Hell, there’s even a call in the goddamn New York Times to redefine death itself, all in service of this ghoulish agenda.
The rest of the post, for members, is about what I’ve uncovered and what I think about it. Spoiler: it’s not pretty, and it makes that old pastor’s sermon look like a fucking prophecy.
Before I proceed, just a word about how I do this blogging gig. I wait for big things to present themselves. Many of the writers out there do a constant stream—the daily Looney Tunes—of every damn thing that happens. It’s 95% noise. If that’s the sort of entertainment you seek, I’m not your guy. I get regular thanks from members of a certain intelligence that I do not engage in that spectacle for dummies.
