“100’s of diets, ONE Meal Management System”
Seen somewhere in a Tweet, earlier today. Oh Boy! A "Meal Management System." All all I have to do is look like a total loser hauling this shit around with me every day. Be prepared to absolutely laugh your ass off. Hell, I just went ahead and gave Bodybuilding.com the link on that. If anyone’s stupid enough to buy it and use it, then they deserve it.
Can you imagine that?
WHAT IT'S ABOUT AND HOW IT WORKS
Free The Animal is an eclectic writing project about everything since November 2003. 23 years, 5,500 posts, 5 million words.
It's a paid membership blog. Most posts are free and public, but only paid members can comment. What determines whether it's free or paid is when I publish. Monday through Friday, free and public. Saturday and Sunday, for paid members. That's it. Membership info here.
Looks like a pretty cool pick-nick basket to me!
Jesus, why does all this self righteous know it all commenting sound familiar? Oh yeah, because it seems paleo is going the way of the vegan’s & lowfatasses.
Patrick, I have a strong suspicion many of us are just joking around (really), hoping to make each other chuckle a bit. I know that was my intention. Also, many people posted in favor of the MMS, and as such there is no need to get JC involved in this thread. :)
Not really, it’s called having a sense of humor. A commercial that cheesy and stupid is begging for it.
So, uh, where are the meals. All I saw in that video was some ingredients (including some anaemic looking chicken).
Punctuation fail! Sorry.
If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. I wouldn’t doubt if each person who clucked their disapproval in this comment section has bought a few items that are ridiculous to most other people. Personally, I don’t care whether someone thinks that something I use looks dorky. I really don’t get the level of ridicule, particularly when it’s justified as being a reaction to the high-carb mindset. I didn’t see that in the commercial.
As for me, I couldn’t see putting down that sort of cash for something of minimal marginal benefit. I toss things in a plastic grocery bag, of which I always have too many. And, if I’m going on a road trip and want something like a picnic basket, I’ve got coolers that work just fine.
My parents bought a “lunchbox” in Japan c 1970 when we lived there. It’s a tall metal cylinder (maybe 18″ tall and 9-10″ in diameter if I remember). The handle lifts up bars that run along each side to take it apart. It’s essentially a stack of bowls. Japanese manual laborers would bring their lunches in these. Pretty cool collector’s item, with lots of ornate decorations, but seems like it would have been a pain in the ass to carry.
Here is a similar item advertised as being typical of India. Not very ornate, but about the same size.
What did people ever do without this wonderful invention? Since we all know that if you ever go over 3 hours without eating, your muscles fall off.
all the water retained from chugging all the carbs helps hold ’em in place
Nice picnic basket. Meal Management System?
Fuckin’ SWEET! I want one, want one, want one!!!!!
Holy gods.
I’d love top see how well all the shit in the top stays in there after rolling around in a back seat for a few miles.
to see.
damn pork fat covered fingers. I bet vegans don’t have this problem.
There are cave paintings in Africa dating back thousands of years showing early man using this exact product. Every hunter-gatherer needs one.
Well you could get well developed muscles carrying all that shit around I guess.
I love the “and supplements” part. There must have been 50 pills in that tray.
I’ve heard of ‘square meals’, but these take the prize…
Man, it’s really goddamn sad but there was a time not long ago that this thing would have come in handy. Of course at the time I was eating a tons of bread, rice, pasta, and almost no fat and was hungry all the time.
$100? I think I’ll wait for the “Black Friday” sale pages. Gonna be hard to manage with my brown bag until then though……………Did you see that the $70 smaller one is already on backorder? They must have had a first run of 2 or 3.
I don’t think it will hold 30 bananas, not with the peels, anyway.
i have a new “Meal Management System” its call fasting, fucker. And then I eat, after the fast. Then I fast again. Sometimes, I eat again. Sometimes I do not.
Fuck you, 6pack-thingie. (And I LIKE a nice picknick basket, but this is too much. I never want to have to do maintainance on my lunch box… wheres the 6pack-thingie mechanic?)
Leo
Not sure why all the hate. Just don’t buy it if you don’t want one. When I was working in an office instead of at home, this would have been really handy. I like to take complete, varied meals with me and I’m a grazer. Chicken, veggies, fruit, nuts, cheese? You could fill up those dishes pretty fast. I’m not sure why you’d need the supplements, but then I just take a couple in the morning and call it a day.
I’m still using Richard Simmons’ Deal-a-Meal with great results. Happy user since ’83!
I love it how they call a bag a “meal management system”.
I’m gonna start selling briefcases as “document management systems” from now on.
Sorry, I don’t think I’ll ever reach for my hip pocket and pull out my “Cash and Credit Card Management System” to buy either of those products!
I don’t own one of those, but I could see how it could be useful. I don’t understand why everybody thinks a jumbo sized lunchbox is so lame or stupid? As apparently one of the few paleo people out there who is trying to gain weight rather than lose it, lol – don’t be so quick to judge folks who have to lug a tremendous amount of food with them to work. As in- I need to bring breakfast and lunch with me ( and sometimes dinner) to my office since I can’t afford to eat out or go home.
I guess it’s the name “Meal Management System?”
When I was in the military working 12-13 hour days this would have been great. Probably wouldn’t spend $100 on it, but like Mark’s protein powder its a personal preference.
Ok guys, I’m not supposed to tell you, but a little birdie told me there is a bonus feature, on the back are integrated straps and it doubles as a fanny pack! It’s also large enough that there’s room to put your existing fanny pack inside.
@David- everyone is taking potshots at what it represents, not the actual utility of the product, rather the mindset that it supports and the carb coma contents that spewed out of it.
Hahahaha ! The head of sales at my work has this! I was wondering why she was lugging around this thing, but since she has to drive around to various clients, it makes sense. I have never discussed her way of eating with her, so if she feels she needs to avoid restaurant food between all her meetings, more power to her.
When I’m going to be gone from the house for a long time, I have my emergency stash. It doesn’t require a $100 “Management System.” It’s a plastic shopping bag containing two tins of sardines, a tin of oysters, and a fork rolled up in a napkin. I roll the bag up and leave it in the center console of my car. If I happen to feel hungry and don’t WANT to feel hungry and there’s no Chipotle nearby, I hit the emergency rations. 62 grams of protein, quite a bit of fat, and I’m good for a long time. I’ve gone to it two or three times per year.
awesome! Mine is a foil pouch of Salmon and a small sleeve of almonds.
Richard,
The suspense is killing me; when do we get to see the next series of posts on your workout program?
Working on it, Reid. Soon, I hope.
I think I’m going to start selling baseball bats but call them whack-a-moles. Got moles, just send me $100 for each whack-a-mole stick. Also buy my special tape to convert your whack-a-mole to a rat elimination system.
Add special weights for those larger pests! Can someone get me the voiceover guy’s number? He sounds so professional.
If one does need to haul a lot of food around, there are cheaper coolers and insulated bags to be found. I got my last camping cooler for $10 on clearance at the end of the summer and it has wheels and a handle to pull it with.
Maybe good for a day hike if you are afraid of getting lost. Otherwise, I think I’d rather fast till dinner.
I am going to start selling hats, but I’m going to call them “Sunlight management systems.”
Actually my lunchbox is probably a little bigger than that but without the compartments. It is a soft over the shoulder cooler that looks very much like the big one above. I drive 1.5 hrs each way to work each day and work 10 hour days so I eat all my meals, accept breakfast, at work. At one time, and for many years it was a 2 hour drive and for about 2 years it was 2 hours 20 minutes. And this is “without” traffic. I’ve been doing this since about 1990.
The big bag is a holdover from the days when I cooked everything at the start of the week and then stocked my fridge at work. Also from the days (only last month actually) when I ate 7 times per day. The past year or so I’ve still been cooking at the beginning of the week but I started taking the food in increments during the week. However, I would still make a big salad daily, pack fruit and other odds and ends. Now, after the last months diet changes and no more grazing/multi smaller meals, I still use the bag to bring my salad, meat/chicken veggies etc and whatever I’m having for lunch and dinner.
As for the drawers and plastic wear, pill compartments etc…..overkill.
The obsessive-compulsives amoung us probably love all those little compartments.
You can get something very similar at Walmart for $15.00 or less.
Holy shit. Who eats that much food every day? WTF!
There’s no room for my cast iron skillet.
Paleo = Fad Diet?
Clearly the article was written by someone with very little knowledge of primal eating. Yawn.
The funny thing is the first comment, a certain durianrider saying he eats grassfed beef. Is that our 30bananas durianrider gone paleo? Or only an impersonator?
Well, I saw a few attempts by someone on that VegSource site who was posting as “Nikoley” (that was literally the screen name) to impersonate our leader here, so it’s probably someone turning the tables a bit.
Forget the foodie flunk, this would make a great kit bag for a craft person or artist…but that’s about it. I don’t put food in plastic anymore anyway…leeched pvcs are not my idea of a nutritive picnic…but hey, those compartments and containers might come in handy for something…
