Let It Grow Let It Grow Let It Grow
…There’s still something else in draft I haven’t published yet. So, just a rather pathetic ‘it’s Friday, what’s a bit weird to post about?’ deal.
How about my hair?
Again, it’s rather pathetic at 53 yoa. And while I’ve not yet bought a Corvette (I had one in my 20s, shipped it to France and a GF totaled it while I was at sea—but that’s a different story) nor a gold chain (I did have a 1 Baht chain (24kt) from Thailand, once, sold it to pay rent in 1992), and I have never had hair on my chest….

Hair
Six years of water only. Not a drop of soap or “conditioner.”
You be the judge.
Nonetheless, since I have so many followers, I’m determined to Go Full Jesus!
The Last Supper will be sous-vide, and I’ll do it myself.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT AND HOW IT WORKS

The dude… abides.
The first thing I thought, Steve!
It’s good knowin’ he’s out there. The Dude. Takin’ ‘er easy for all us sinners.
Since he’s determined to Go Full Jesus, my first thought was: “Nobody fucks with the Jesus”
I kind of spat on my keyboard by accident. The last supper thing really is the icing on the cake of life.
Gabs, well, I hope it was vodka!
No stains!

“Nobody fucks with the Jesus.”
Coming to a post title near you. Has to be good, though, so we’ll see.
Feel free to shoot a reminder and if you ever see it without proper attribution, feel free to go all Judas.
Correct.
Hehe, I remember when my hair was short like that :)
When you get it as long as mine, I’d be curious to know if you’d reconsider the no shampoo thing. I can’t avoid shampoo. Granted, I wash it when I feel it’s time to do it (maybe every 10 days or 2 weeks) but without shampoo, it would turn kind of ugly. The thing is when it is very long, washing / drying / brushing the hair daily is truly a hassle. You end up just brushing it (you can’t escape brushing unless you want dreadlocks) until it looks funky or you can smell it, then you know it’s time to wash it.
“You end up just brushing it (you can’t escape brushing unless you want dreadlocks) ”
Nope. Neither. I only run my fingers through my hair (it’s strangely spiritual, but a subject for later).
Realize, I have had zero soap or shampoo in or on my hair for six years.
You think you can’t live without it. I’m living with it.
freetheanimal.com/2012/05/tribute-my-cousin-and-surrogate-big-brother-george-jorge-knott-1956-2012.h…
George had dreads, but it requires a crochet needle to wind hair.
No interest.
I do no trimming. In the end, I’ll just bunch it up and chop it where I want it.
I see. It’ll be interesting because I am getting lazy with my hair and postpone the washing as long as I can … but in my case, I have thick dark hair (Kabyle ancestry) and it would get quickly messy without some order .
Washing, drying, & brushing seems situational as I have not dried my hair (other than when I’m in the sun) for years. I comb out maybe 2/3 times a month (though I have straight hair), and i usually wash only once a week with sodium & essential oils.
Short hair: Yearly cuts & products cost me $400-$500, not to mention the time wasted to cut & shape my hair.
Long hair: No costs, and I don’t remember what it’s like to stress over a bad hair day.
Yea, I spend fuck all. My wife, now with shorter hair than I, loves to spend a few thousand so far as I can tell.
You obviously don’t mean sodium, Michael. It’s a metal that will flare like the sun in contact with water. It’s stored in kerosene, at least it used to be.
You’re right, i didn’t mean the element sodium. I meant water with either sodium chloride or bicarbonate, aka salt or baking soda.
your face looks thinner
you look less pissed
my hair started falling out in high school so i’ve saved a ton of money on haircuts over the years :)
I haven’t washed my hair for at least 25 years. Every morning I rub my head all over, very hard, with damp hands. It looks a lot better than it ever did when I was washing it. I think your scalp makes stuff that protects it, as long as it can get to the ends.
For me, at least, vinegar was a an absolute godsend. Used to have pretty annoying dandruff, caused by an apparent allergy to the Malassezia that lives on the scalp. If I stop using it for a week or so the symptoms start creeping back.
I’ve recently become interested in vinegar. Sure, I’d heard the WAPF stuff over the years but never paid much attention.
Turns out it can be amazing stuff inside & out.
vegetablepharm.blogspot.dk/2014/08/vinegar-magic.html
Part 2 of the Australian Catalyst series on the gut biome included a segment on vinegar. Perhaps it’s a big part of the general demonstrated healthfulness of Med diets.
fwiw, i heard a nutritionist on the radio claim that dandruff is caused by excess sugar in the diet. Seems to be true in my case anyway.
My grandmother used vinegar. When I’d come home from school and she’d ‘done’ her hair, the whole place reeked of vinegar. That put me off vinegar smell for life. When people use it to clean (like at the health club I used to go to the cleaners used it on the stairs and rails) it was gross. I do use some vinegar in water to clean the fridge and windows though. It’s great for stuff like that.
I can’t speak to all the other claims of vinegar but for dandruff, at least the type I had, it is a wonder drug.
Funnily enough, I tried it after coming across a comment on the Wikipedia talk page on dandruff (ie, before I started reading any sort of paleo/WAPF/etc stuff).
I do still wash my hair, couldn’t wait out the period it takes to fully adjust to no shampoo scalp, but no more than once a week, vinegar makes a great conditioner, counteracting the base in shampoo.
i wonder that’s why Japanese can eat so much rice (sushi has vinegar)
also prevents AGE
great stuff & cheap
To add to that, I was on a low, to very-low carb strict paleo diet when I suddenly developed the first case of dandruff in my life. Now I think that I threw off my bacterial ecosystem of my skin at that time, just as happens in the gut. Perhaps I now have the fungal over-growth of malassesia that Sean refers to. It highlights that we are one total inter-dependent system, inside and outside our bodies. I now am sorry that I fell for the wing of paleo that pushes low-carb paleo for a quick path to weight control and many other Edenesque perfections.
“I will now proceed to entangle the entire area…”
You haven’t done any music postings recently, Richard. So may I offer this one?
youtu.be/1RPovmMwef8
A propos of this post and a lot of the other recent postings here.
Geoff:
Ha! I have lots of CSNY in my library, including that. One of my favorites. Actually, I’m sure it just rolled around recently. Hard to have a favorite with those guys, though.
Nice pick, nice taste.
Will you be using a professional proof reader for your book?
Pooping:
“Will you be using a professional proof reader for your book?”
No, I’m going to pooping on it.
Leave us alone, troll. It’s so 2013.
Your response is clearly disproportionate to the question. Thou doth protests too much Brutus?
Really? Is that what you call an answer to a stupid question?
Since you don’t have a typical forum page and one can’t start some kind of thread, I offer this up to the Nikoley Critique of Gut Health: I started eating three or four cups a day of cooked lentils a couple of weeks ago. Tasty, filling, a very good protein profile.
But what really set off my good type alarm bells, is that one hour after eating a cup, my blood glucose barely burped! Pretty much in line with eating meat. Under 130. Simple research shows that most of the carbohydrates are in fiber, so that might explain at least a goodly portion of it. Along with the far-tage’ evidence.
I’ve been “doing” the RS thing mostly on and sometimes off for almost a year. It really helped bring my FBG down, although it crept up somewhat after the initial great results. But I frankly got tired of “taking” it, yet another daily drill.
This AM my FBG was 88, right about as good as it ever got with potato starch. And my (TMI Alert!) stools are well formed and consistent, which I’ve not experienced in a long time. Also, like the early days of PS consumption, I’m sleeping so well that I’m finding myself awake at 5AM ever after, um, heavy drinking. Definitely not the historical pzo! And I’m going out to the beach at 7AM for a bit of sprint ‘n jog! What the hell?
I’ve also been doing a gelatin intervention, er, hack, with incredible, noticeable results, like being able to run for the first time in over thirty years. That’s for another time.
I’m finding beans to be the most amazing food. I’m eating them every day. My go-to staple. I seldom eat breakfast meat, anymore. Eggs, beans, OJ (or fruit) and a glass of milk, sometimes.
I’m shifting, too. Less meat mandatory, although not shy. Beans/lentils with a heap of Ro-Tel tomatoes and chilis, or Caribbean Sofrito. Very satisfying, especially with a couple of eggs.
I encourage you to try the lentil gig, Richard. You are someone open to new ideas and have the audience to propagate radical, um, new ideas.
BTW, I (mostly) love the new banner photos. (Mostly) very thought provoking. Unlike you, I don’t hate Obama, government, or voting. Like you, I’m terribly pissed off at the militarization of our civilian police. And as to those Medievalists living in our midst under the tent of religion, my contempt has no limits.
I just brought a pot of pintos to boil, turned down to a simmer and Asked Siri to set a timer for 2 hours.
“Done. I love a good countdown.”
Oh, I do lentils, but usually in a kinda German way where it’s more soup. Do it in beef stock, add carrot, onion, and chopped up polish sausage.
An acquaintence is a university derm researcher. She says water-only “shampoos” are highly underrated…she regularly recommends them, particularly for those in midlife and beyond, since hormonal decline leads to less oil production on the scalp…a “benefit” of aging.
My mother made lentil soup often, which is how I got to know them. I always consume with apple cider vinegar. Look at that, we somehow managed to meld the vinegar and lentil sub-topics.
Saute some smoked sausage and onions in butter or coconut oil, add to the lentils. Yummers!
Dude…..
