Happy Testosterone Day

Well, at root, testosterone (produced by fathers), is half the equation for making babies. And it’s the babies who, when grown up, complete the circle through a day of honor and celebration.
I just called my dad, but he was busy making the mashed potatoes for the fried chicken dinner with country (milk) gravy. I’ll ring back later.
A friend sent me a brand new this very morning (it’s mid-morning Monday, here). It’s by J.P. Sears, the YouTube personality, diet and politics pundit, and comedian. This time, the subject was Testosterone, and it’s a serious vid packed with good info. J.P. has been on supervised testosterone optimization therapy for 5 years or so (since 2019). And it really shows in the photos and vid clips he puts up. It’s also serious in terms of the science. It all rings true to me.
It’ll be 2 years for me coming October. Here’s a search link for some or all of my previous posts on my own gig: https://freetheanimal.com/?s=TRT
And just like J.P. reports, the biggest benefit is the manly mental well-being angle. It’s even better than when you’re young. You have the added advantage of a couple of decades of experience (and perhaps even wisdom).
Here’s the video that I’ll encourage you wholeheartedly to watch…even you women. You can keep it in your back pocket in case any men in your life show signs of low-T…such as voting for a Democrat, wearing a mask, getting a vaccination, or self-censoring based on what he thinks women want to hear.
… I also think that in many cases, a man can’t tell his T is not optimal until he actually feels and knows the difference after a few weeks of optimization.
Here’s one idea J.P. put out there that I’m going to try myself. He went from a single dose of 105mg weekly to, later, a 3x per week dose of 35mg. But most recently, he has actually lowered his dose to 70mg per week, but in 7 daily 10mg doses, and not intramuscular, but subcutaneous. This makes sense from a physiological standpoint, in that T production happens on a continuous basis, but with a spike in the morning. So, doing the subcutaneous injection in the morning makes some sense.
I’m going to give it a try, now that I have, once again, removed the T-killer from my life:
ALCOHOL
The backstory is that I dumped alcohol in early August 2022. It was October 2023 when I took up TRT (or TOT as J.P. puts it…optimization rather than replacement) so I had been 14 months alcohol-free already. Then, in June, a year ago, I decided to take up alcohol again (I drink whiskey, almost no beer), to basically see what would happen. I’d been on the T for about 9 months.
I didn’t notice much for a good while. Gas in the tank, I guess. But it slowly began to get noticeable. Lack of motivation, laziness, poor mental state, poor sleep, poor libido. In spite of remaining on T.
It’s like alcohol is ANTI-Testosterone in every way imaginable. At least for older men. I never noticed much problem with alcohol when I was young, and I suspect that’s because it’s fully endogenous, not isolated and injected. In other words, there is benefit to exogenous application of certain things, but it’s no true substitute or in any way better than the real thing. This applies to vitamin D as well. While supplements are good, no substitute for actual sunlight on bare skin and for me, that’s immediately noticeable. Some good time out in the sun, even 10-15 min full exposure, I receive a burst of well-being and mental energy every single time.
So, all you dads out there… get your diet and activity squared away, get sun on bare skin, have your T levels checked, and get to the top of the range, like to 1,000. See what happens. Like I said, you’ll think you’re just fine until you get to 1K ng/dL and say, “whoa, no I wasn’t fucking fine. I actually considered voting for a Democrat a couple of months back!“

I’m in my mid-70’s and noticed a mood and energy decline that most folks would ascribe to aging alone. But when my bloodwork showed T at 200, I decided, what the hell, let’s try to fix that. I ended up with a daily .25mg dose 20% compounded cream, applied to the scrotum. Retest at two months showed a 1200 T reading. Given these results, I don’t see the need for an injectable, and daily application keeps T levels steady. I’m no bodybuilder, but without any change in my workouts, my physique now resembles someone 25 years younger. Remarkable! The only unsettling side-effect is testicular shrinkage, but I can live with that.
Wow that’s truly amazing, Dan. Haven’t looked into the ball cream vs. injection but I assume that being so local would cause a bigger decline in endogenous production. I’ve noticed nothing like that with injections.
How is your mood and energy?
Not a huge difference in mood, but energy is more even, and sleep is definitely better. Strength and muscular development is the most striking difference. I can’t believe when I look in the mirror! Next goal is shedding my stubborn visceral fat to get a narrower waist.
